HOLLAND'S OPUS FOUNDATION (MHOF) was inspired by the acclaimed motion picture Mr. Holland's Opus, the story of the profound effect a motivated and dedicated music teacher had on his students. The film's composer, Michael Kamen, founded MHOF in 1996 as his commitment to the future of music education. The Foundation promotes instrumental music education nationwide by partnering with businesses, schools and communities to provide new and refurbished musical instruments to qualified schools and individual students. MUSICIAN ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (MAP) Carole Fields and Buddy Arnold created MAP for musicians who were strung out on drugs or alcohol and didn't have a clue what to do about it. MAP makes it possible for members of the music industry to receive treatment for drug and alcohol addiction, regardless of their financial condition and gives those men and women a opportunities for recovery. ASCAP FOUNDATION - ASCAP (American Society of Composers Authors and Publishers) is a membership association, which is the only U.S. performing rights organization created and controlled by composers, songwriters and music publishers. ASCAP protects the rights of its members by licensing and distributing royalties for the non-dramatic public performances of their copyrighted works. The ASCAP Foundation is dedicated to nurturing the music talent of tomorrow, preserving the legacy of the past and sustaining the creative incentive for today's creators through a variety of educational, professional, and humanitarian programs and activities, which serve the entire music community. MusiCares Established in 1989 by the Recording Academy, it is the mission of MusiCares to ensure that music people have a place to turn in times of financial, medical or personal crisis. MusiCares' primary goal is to focus the attention and resources of the music industry on human services issues that directly impact the health and welfare of music people. The primary focus of the Nancy Davis Foundation for Multiple Sclerosis has always been to raise funds for the most aggressive and promising research in an effort to find a cure for MS. In founding The Nancy Davis Foundation for Multiple Sclerosis, it is her deep personal commitment to find the cause and ultimate cure of this disease. The Race To Erase MS is an annual DON'T LAUGH AT ME (DLAM) - The Don't Laugh At Me Project is working to transform schools, camps and other youth organizations into more compassionate, safe and respectful environments. Founded by Peter Yarrow of the folk group Peter, Paul & Mary, the project disseminates educational resources that are designed to establish a climate that reduces the emotional and physical cruelty some children inflict upon each other by behaviors such as ridicule, bullying and - in extreme cases - violence. THE BEN E. KING STAND BY ME FOUNDATION The purpose of the Ben E. King Stand By Me Foundation is to assist various civic organizations in their missions to improve the quality of life of the people they serve and to assist young people who have accepted responsibility for their emotional, social and educational growth and development. The major thrust of the foundation will be to assist those organizations that provide services in the areas of poverty, substance abuse, child abuse and neglect, teen pregnancy and domestic violence. The foundation will also assist individuals in their quest for post-high school educational goals.
