RING OF FIRE, written by Merle Kilgore and June Carter, was recorded by Johnny Cash for Columbia Records in 1963. This song was #1 on Billboard's County Singles chart for seven weeks, peaked at #17 on Billboard's Hot 100, and earned a gold record. It went on to win a CMR Award for Best Country Western Recording. That same year, Merle Kilgore was name a Billboard Top Ten Songwriter of the year. Johnny Cash's recording of "Ring of Fire" was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1998. Merle Kilgore was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1998.
